Are you excited? I’m excited!
Ok, so, around two weeks a mysterious countdown had appeared on the official Persona 5 site, counting down to May 5 (because of course). Today, around 7pm Japan time a live broadcast began on Nico Nico Douga, showing… Tokyo Tower. A text in the bottom left said: “On May 5th we take over Tokyo Tower!”
The time of the announcement – 9:30pm. So, people waited.
And boy, what an announcement it was.
To begin with, we got our first look at the new Velvet Room assistants – Caroline and Justine.
Long story short, the P5 cast broke into the Tokyo Tower in order to use it to broadcast the P5 announcement, everything narrated by Morgana (the cat mascot).
It was staged sorta like an actual news report.
(What will happen to Tokyo Tower!? An advance note from the phantom thieves – “We’ll be taking over Tokyo Tower!”)
The Tokyo Tower actually went completely dark (the reporter actually said it was her first time seeing that happen (笑)
We were shown an long and detailed trailer with lots of gameplay, cutscenes and all the cast members in it. It was said that the current party will number nine members in total.
And as for the actual release date…
Yeah, September 15 might be far away still, but at least it feels definitive. Here’s hoping it won’t get pushed back again, lol.
A limited edition was announced as well.
The limited edition includes:
An artbook (Persona series 20th anniversary edition)
An anniversary CD set with songs from other Persona games (and Persona 5 too, naturally), 5 CDs in total.
A case to keep all this pretty stuff in (笑)
A special theme
…And some DLC costumes
Of course, that’s the Japanese release date, nothing has been said about Europe and the US yet. But a mysterious voice at the end of the broadcast said that Persona 5 will appear on E3, so my guess is that’s when we might get the Western release dates.
The broadcast ended with the Tokyo Tower’s lights coming back on – this time in a shade of red, the colour of Persona 5.
